Unclaimed Domain of the Week: TextuallyFrustrated.com

Posted by: Chris Lesinski

He's actually textually active. This week's unclaimed domain:

TextuallyFrustrated.com

.

You're anxiously awaiting a text message from a sweetheart. Your cell vibrates on your bedside table. "1 New Message". You get excited. You open the phone. It's a text from your mom. You are textually frustrated.

That clever little witticism in dot com form is still up for grabs. We're just as surprised as you are. It's an unclaimed domain name!

But that's not the only circumstance that TextuallyFrustrated.com could cover. Here are some ideas:

  • A microblog featuring user-submitted passive-aggressive texts (a la TFLN).
  • An overwhelming collection of downloadable fonts.
  • A blog that posts vexing bible passages from sermons.
  • A site rallying against expensive college textbooks.
  • Or, just buy it and forward it to the Tosh.0 Blog!

According to Whois, last week's Halloween-themed domain went to Lu Lan from Shanghai! I don't think they even have Comedy Central in Shanghai!

Now, it's your turn. Get TextuallyFrustrated.com! If you don't know how to buy and domain name, here's how.

Microwave Household Items Online

Posted by: Chris Lesinski

There's always room for JelloNow here's a creative way to clean out your refrigerator: Take out each item one by one and nuke the hell out of it in your microwave.

But if you'd rather just observe the disintegration of random products without having to take a Brillo pad to the inside of your office microwave, this website is right up your alley.

This only-mildly disguised Kraft Foods promo site offers one-click access to videos of 21 household items being microwaved to excess: a tomato, glue, a pineapple, soap, eggs…

My personal favorite: Christmas lights. Just in time for the holidays!

With it's flashy interface surrounded by varsity lettering and school colors, it's nice to see they're not pandering to college students and have finally begun catering to to women over 40. But don't let that turn you off! Microwaves are for everyone.

And kudos to Kraft for ripping off a popular YouTube channel and using it for corporate gain.  It's good to finally see someone profiting off viral videos.

Fake AP Stylebook Makes Grammar Best

Posted by: Chris Lesinski

InterrobangThe AP Stylebook, a book of nit-picky style and usage rules for writers that haunts journalists’ dreams, might seem slightly anachronistic in the age of blogging and leetspeak.  But at least they've been trying to take some technological strides. For instance, they have a pretty comprehensive Twitter account.

But this kind of ironic innovation can’t go unmocked. That’s why someone cooked up Fake AP Stylebook, a Twitter account that will make your subjects and verbs disagree in hilarity.

Strangely, I’ve found that the rules of the Fake AP Stylebook appear to be "followed" by more of the web than the real AP — and not just that more people literally Twitter-follow the fake stylebook than the real stylebook — but bloggers and the like actually seem to adhere to the satirical musings of Fake AP.

For example, let’s start with this rule:

Use "student" to refer to college attendees, and "coed" to refer to really hot students.

Case in point, the web magazine that’s all about the word: COED Magazine. They are currently promoting such tasteful articles as “Super Sexy Sweater Kittens” and “Sexy Halloween Costume Cleavage Collection.” You wouldn't find these articles on the STUDENT Magazine website, would you?

I applaud thee for following the fake style guide.

Can TA Seduction by Email Change Your Grade?

Posted by: Chris Lesinski

1

It can be hard to communicate emotions through email. That's why we litter them with "lol," emoticons and nude pictures — to get that much closer to real conversation.

Well, that's just the opening (above) of this juicy ten-message email thread between a TA and a student. The rest is jam-packed with innuendo and outuendo. I'll help you see right through to the subtext, after the jump…

Throwing a Futon Out the Window

Posted by: Chris Lesinski

Why are they laughing? This is funny to you and me because we're watching it on the internet. If this were actually your house, your futon and your window — you'd have to be 11 or 12 kegstands deep to laugh at this disaster.

I guess this starts off as a decent idea. What else are they going to do with a metal futon that their drunk friend peed all over? They're a dime a dozen on Craigslist. Your parents just get you a new one every school year anyway. Futons are worthless. Why not throw it out a window to a marvelous annihilation below? It just doesn't work as well when the highest point in your town is the second story of a frat house.

Right before launch, the cameraman says, "Make sure you push it, though, so it doesn't crack our air condit-" Very typical of a student to not have his priorities straight. That air conditioner won't do you any good with a gaping hole in the side of your house.

"I Gotta Feeling" One Take

Posted by: Chris Lesinski

They really make it look like it's fun to wait around for 30 minutes and then deliver one lyric.

Need I remind you that "one takes" are an internet staple? It's about time someone did one with a song other than "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger."

This is a group of college students — 172 of them — in Quebec. In the video description there's an English translation that says they're "communication" students. The French word for "communication" must be really close to the word for "theater."
