Make fun of the broadcasters. If the game is muted, make fun of the network's color palette.
Pick the first player from the sport being played that pops into your head and make up a story about how he hit on your sister at a salad bar.
Make up an odd rule as a point of trivia. For example, did you know that in basketball, the original penalty for double dribbling was five months in jail?
Take any conceivable opportunity to insert the name of the sport being played into conversation, even at the expense of grammar and sense (i.e. Co-worker: So, did you get the McGarren file? You: Basketball, basketball, basketball!)
