NEW YORK, September 26, 2013 – After a year-long hiatus, “South Park” returned to Comedy Central last night for its 17th Season Premiere and registered its highest-rated episode since its 2010 Fall Season. The Emmy® and Peabody® Award-winning series, fresh off receiving its fifth Emmy® for Outstanding Animated Program, drew over 4.43 million Total Viewers (P2+) across three telecasts on premiere night and was the #1 series in all of television among the elusive young male demographics (Men 18-34, Men 18-24). The premiere play of “South Park” drew 2.89 million Total Viewers (P2+) and 2.23 million Adult 18-49 viewers (2.1 Adult 18-49 rating) and rated extremely well among young men, topping all of television for the night with a 5.0 rating among Men 18-34 (1.40 million viewers) and a 6.9 rating among Men 18-24 (848,000 viewers). Adding to the successful launch of the new season, “Let Go, Let Gov” has been streamed over 285,000 times via SouthParkStudios.com since its premiere last night. (source: Omniture SiteCatalyst)
Also enjoying success last night was the Emmy®-nominated “Key & Peele,” which was the second highest-rated series in all of television among Men 18-34 and Men 18-24 and saw dramatic week-over-week increases from its Season 3 premiere last week, with ratings up +37% with Adults 18-49, +49% with Adults 18-34, +51% with Men 18-34 and +58% with Men 18-24. Like its lead-in, “Key & Peele” was an active topic on Twitter last night with three Nationally Trending Topics across the night.
The success of “South Park” and “Key & Peele” made Comedy Central the most-watched channel in all of television for Wednesday Prime among Men 18-34 and Men 18-24 and provided the #1 brand in comedy with its highest-rated night in Prime among these demos since September 19, 2011, the night that the “Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen” premiered.
