SENATOR JOHN KERRY TO APPEAR ON
"THE DAILY SHOW WITH JON STEWART"
MONDAY, MARCH 26 AT 11:00 P.M.
NEW YORK, March 22, 2007 -- Senator John Kerry (D-MA) will be a guest on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" on Monday, March 26 at 11:00 p.m. (ET/PT). Senator Kerry previously appeared as a guest on "The Daily Show" on August 24, 2004, during his campaign for President. His new book, This Moment on Earth: Today's New Environmentalists and Their Vision for the Future, which was co-authored by his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, will be released by PublicAffairs the day of his appearance.
This Moment on Earth offers a compelling narrative, documenting the challenges confronting the nation and celebrates an inspiring new generation of Americans determined to serve their country in the most essential way: by doing whatever is necessary to secure its future. From scattered individual efforts, these new environmentalists have rallied community support and have developed new bipartisanship in problem-solving. Their examples offer a vision for a future shared by all and the prospect of an opportunity from which every citizen can benefit.
Senator Kerry has been a leader in the environmental movement throughout his public life, beginning with his involvement in the first Earth Day celebration in Massachusetts in 1970. Serving four terms in the U.S. Senate, where he holds one of the top environmental voting records, he has led the fight to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. He has passed legislation protecting the country's oceans, fisheries and air, and has been an outspoken advocate for fuel efficiency. Kerry was named an Environmental Hero by the League of Conservation Voters and, as the Democratic Nominee for President in 2004, was the first candidate to make energy policy a cornerstone of a presidential campaign.
Other politicians who have appeared on "The Daily Show" include former Presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter, former Vice President Al Gore, Senators John McCain, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Barack Obama, Joseph Lieberman, Bob Kerrey, Charles Schumer, Norm Coleman, Arlen Specter, Ted Kennedy, Trent Lott, Rick Santorum, Russ Feingold, Barbara Boxer, Representatives Nancy Pelosi and Rahm Emanuel, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Senator John Edwards, who announced his intention to run for the 2004 Democratic Presidential nomination during an appearance on the show on September 15, 2003. In addition, General Pervez Musharraf, President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, was Stewart's guest on September 26, 2006, marking the first time a sitting head of state had appeared on the show.
As part of "The Daily Show's" ongoing "Indecision 2008" coverage of the next presidential election, the show has already featured appearances by Democratic candidates Senators Joe Biden and Chris Dodd as well as former Governor Tom Vilsack.
The nine-time Emmy and two-time Peabody Award-winning "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" was launched in the summer of 1996. The nightly news satire takes a reality-based look at news, trends, pop culture, current events, politics, sports, entertainment and the media. In each show, Stewart and a team of correspondents, including Dan Bakkedahl, Samantha Bee, Jason Jones, Aasif Mandvi, John Oliver and Rob Riggle, comment on the day's stories employing actual news footage, taped field pieces, in-studio guests and on-the-spot coverage of important news events.
Jon Stewart and David Javerbaum are the executive producers of "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" with Kahane Corn and Josh Lieb serving as co-executive producers. The series' head writer is Steve Bodow. Chuck O'Neil is the director.
Each episode of "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" repeats at 1:00 a.m. the same night and at 10:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. the following day.
