Senator Kennedy To Appear As A Guest On A Late Night Show
For The First Time Ever
NEW YORK, April 18, 2006—Senator Edward Kennedy (D–MA) will appear as a guest on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" on Thursday, April 20 at 11:00 p.m. This marks the first time the Senator has ever appeared on a late night series.
Each episode of "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" repeats at 1:00 a.m. the same night and at 10:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. the following day.
Senator Kennedy is one of many distinguished politicians who have appeared on "The Daily Show" as part of COMEDY CENTRAL's ongoing political coverage. Others include President Bill Clinton, Vice President Al Gore, Senator John McCain, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Senator John Kerry, Senator Joseph Lieberman, Senator John Edwards, Senator Barrack Obama, Senator Charles Schumer, Senator Joe Biden, Senator Bob Kerrey, Senator Arlen Specter, Representative Dick Gephardt, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and former Senator and 1996 Republican Presidential Nominee Bob Dole, who also served as Guest Political Commentator for the series' "Indecision 2000" election coverage.
"The Daily Show," a nightly news parody launched in the summer of 1996, takes a reality-based look at news, pop culture, politics and the media. In each show, Stewart and a team of correspondents comment on the day's stories employing actual news footage, taped field pieces, in–studio guests and on-the-spot coverage of important news events.
Last year "The Daily Show" received two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Program. This is the third year in a row that the series took home the best show Emmy and the fourth time (and third consecutive) that the two–time Peabody Award–winning news satire was recognized in the writing category. To date the series has received 15 Emmy nominations and taken home the big prize 7 times.
Jon Stewart and Ben Karlin are the executive producers of "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" with Kahane Corn serving as the co–executive producers. The series' head writer is David Javerbaum who is also a supervising producer. Chuck O'Neill is the director.
