COMEDY CENTRAL'S "SOUTH PARK" WINS PRIMETIME EMMY AT LAST
Perennial Animated Favorite "South Park" Wins After Five Nominations
NEW YORK, September 12, 2005 -- COMEDY CENTRAL's long-running animated hit "South Park," brought home the gold last evening, winning its first Emmy Award after five nominations, in the 2004-2005 Primetime Emmy Awards competition. The honors were given out yesterday by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (ATAS). The program, an adult-oriented animation phenomenon, is set in the town of South Park, nestled in the Colorado Rockies and home to grade-schoolers Kyle, Stan, Kenny and Cartman. It won the Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program (less than an hour).
This year's Emmy Awards are being presented during two ceremonies. The first, primarily for creative arts categories, took place on Sunday, September 11, while the balance of the Emmys, primarily for the performing arts and including four nominations for "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," will be announced before a black-tie audience during a primetime telecast (CBS) on Sunday, September 18. The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA hosts both ceremonies.
