About Doug Stanhope

Doug Stanhope's ability to be honest and uninhibited while remaining likeable has made him one of the best comics working today. On his third comedy album, "Die Laughing," Doug rants about school shootings, drugs and alcohol, abortion, sexual abuse and other controversial topics. His previous two albums contain more semi-autobiographical stories, such as the time he got rolled by a transvestite hooker in Phoenix. The Austin Chronicle says of Doug, "He lives a mad, mad life and what he remembers he reports back to us." This August, look for Doug as the new co-host of Comedy Central's "The Man Show."

In 1992 Doug packed his few belongings in a 1981 Dodge Omni and spent the next three years "living on the road like a pig, getting drunk, chasing whores and spewing dick jokes across America like a crop duster." Later he won the $10,000 grand prize at the prestigious San Francisco Comedy Competition, giving him the scratch to move to Los Angeles.

From there, Doug took off on television, including his own half-hour special on Comedy Central along with "Premium Blend", Fox's "When Hidden Cameras Attack." NBC's "Late Friday" and "SpyTV", FX's "The X Show" as well as BET's "Comicview" and the "painful to watch 'Make Me Laugh.'" Not to mention the full gambit of festivals including the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival (1996, 2002), the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal (1997, 1999), the Florida Comedy Festival (1998) and the Chicago Comedy Festival (1998, 2000, 2002). Doug was also named one of the Top Ten Comics To Watch by both Variety and the Hollywood Reporter in 2002. Doug is a regular guest on "The Howard Stern Show.
