Winner of the 2005 Malcom Hardee Award following his smash hit run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Reggie has also just been rewarded the 3rd Annual Andy Kaufman Award by Andy's father and long time manager George Shapiro. Combining looped vocals created live on stage with his unique brand of improvised comedy, Watts' show is a trip called "Original, off-the-wall and entertaining Bliss." -- The Sunday Telegraph.
The subjects for the Reggie Watts treatment range from ancient history, technology, science, spirit elves, and racism, to theology and pop culture. The music incorporates hip-hop, trip-hop, 80's pop alternative, numetal and classical opera, all improvised over looped beatboxing, channelling multiple influences into a sound unlike anything you've heard. Reggie disorientates and confuses people in the most entertaining way.
Reggie has recently performed to ecstatic crowds worldwide winning them over with his completely original brand of music comedy whether opening for The Pharcyde on a European tour, performing before Dave Matthews at a sold out Madison Square Garden, improvising live with Bernie Worrell in New Orleans, joining the Black Eyed Peas onstage in Seattle, or performing at Eugene Mirman's "Invite Them Up" in New York or at Comedy Death Ray at the Upright Citizen's Brigade Theater in LA. In 2006 Reggie was picked from comics worldwide to perform at The New Faces of Comedy showcase at the Montreal Just for Laughs festival, headlined a sold out solo show at the Bumbershoot Festival in Seattle, headlined a month long run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland, performed at the Cape Town Comedy Festival in Cape Town South Africa, sold out a headline show at The Comedy Central Stage in Los Angeles, showcased for the HBO Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, recorded with legendary hip hop producer Prince Paul, and even opened a couple of shows for The Rolling Stones.
Reggie is currently developing webisodes for Comedy Central's Motherload and Turner's new comedy Network that will premiere in early 2007.
