[--Live at Gotham Q&A--]
Q. Name?
A. John Todd Ramsey.
Q. Where do you live?
A. Austin, Texas, with my wife, Anna.
Q. Who is your comedy hero?
A. Brian Regan. He is clean. He is physical. He is observational. He does it all.
Q. What made you decide to strive for a career in comedy?
A. I needed an escape from law school and decided to try stand up. Since then, I just haven't been able to quit.
Q. What career would your parents have chosen for you?
A. They would love for me to continue comedy. They're embarrassed that I am a lawyer.
Q. Have you ever tanked onstage?
A. Many times, worst three (1) I did a private gig for the Texas Parent Teacher's Association. I followed a one-hour presentation on the future of school board politics, and performed in the front of a conference room of 12 people, fluorescent lights and all. I did about 20 minutes (or was it an hour?). It turns out it was miserable for them as well: the group asked for their money back. (2)I was booked for a show in San Antonio only later to find out that it was Latino Comedy Night. I stepped on stage and someone yelled "You're white!" And, its true I am. I bombed magnificently. Ever heard the sound of 1500 people not laughing? Deafening. (3)I did a private gig for a sorority at the University of Texas. No one listened at all. Suffice it to say that they had about as much interest in my comedy as they did their chastity.
Q. Everyone's a geek in some way. What kind of a geek are you?
A. Not everyone's a geek, dude. But, you totally just gave yourself away. Geek.
Q. What song is trapped inside your brain right now?
A. That one Blues Travelers song that is like, "I take off my smile. I put it in my pocket, and I hold it for a while. Try not to have to drop it. Men are not to cry. So, how am I to stop it? Keep it all in side, don't show how much something something."
Q. What will you do with yourself after the fall of civilization?
A. Mourn the fall of civilization.
Q. What is your greatest memory from your time with Live at Gotham?
A. N/A
